TRANSPORTABLE COMMUNITY GARDEN

2-Condell St.jpg

One of our first gardens has found a permanent home in its third location at Condell St, Fitzroy. A great example of making the best of under-used space, the garden was first built on a site nearby that was awaiting development. Designed to be transportable, the garden is constructed from recycled materials and conserves resources through a wicking-bed watering system and the inclusion of on-site composting.

The garden is unique in that it is totally open – no fences guard the space at its exposed site next to the Fitzroy Town Hall, and while this sometimes presents challenges, the dedicated group of local residents who care for it are motivated by the garden’s power to connect and to educate as well as by growing fresh food.
